The 10th annual potato drive for South Whidbey food bank charities was held Saturday, Oct. 24 and hosted by the St. Hubert council of the Knights of Columbus.

The drive was a success due to the help of Maple Wood Farms in Mount Vernon and Hanson’s Building Supply of Langley.

Maple Wood Farms donated 18,000 pounds of potatoes, and Hanson’s Building Supply transported the potatoes from Mount Vernon to St. Hubert Catholic Church in Langley.

The Knights of Columbus of St. Hubert council along with parishioners, members of the Mobile Turkey Unit, and Oak Harbor and Coupeville Councils of the Knights of Columbus began bagging potatoes at 9 a.m. By noon, all of the potatoes, separated into 10-pound bags, were delivered to local food banks and charities. They included Good Cheer in Langley, the Senior Center of South Whidbey, the Mobile Turkey Unit, Island Church Soup Kitchen of Langley, St. Hubert Catholic Church, St. Mary’s food bank in Coupeville and the Help House of Oak Harbor, according to a news release.

Through the efforts of the Knights of Columbus and St. Hubert Catholic Church, and their partnership with Maple Wood Farms and Hanson’s Building Supply, many families across South Whidbey, Coupeville, and Oak Harbor will reap the benefits of their work.
