2001:A Staff Oddity — Coming to this galaxy Friday!

The teachers and staff are again presenting a night of far out entertainment, this time in the famous Tatooine bar of Star Wars, in the annual staff Talent Show, Friday, April 27, 7:30 p.m. in the South Whidbey High School Auditorium. Emceed by Conductor of Fun Jim Freeman, the one-hour-plus performance is called 2001: A Staff Oddity. It will include video clips from the original film, 2001: A Space Odyssey and South Whidbey’s own version of the monolith. There will be Vivaldi violin pieces, a Star Wars bar scene, Strauss waltzers; and other surprises. Highlights of the program:* Bob Effertz on the digeredoo accompanying video clips from 2001: A Space Odyssey, introducing the monolith and the Space Monkeys, Scott Mauk and Don Zisette. Jim Freeman will then take the stage. * Performance of a Vivaldi composition by Susie Berg, violin, and Mary Bakeman, piano* Mamas Do Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Teachers, sung by primary school singers with Susan Morris on guitar* Second video clip from 2001, the Strauss waltz segment, danced by Debra Davies and Bob Effertz* Blackbird, sung by Susan Morris, Paul Houser and Tom Walker* Opening of Outer Space bar scene with Dan Carter doing I’m Your Handy Man, vocal and piano, with vocal back-up* Mike McInerney singing Bartender Blues with accompanying guitar * R-e-s-p-e-c-t, sung by Marge Carter and Dianne MoonDancer, with vocal backups by Val Brown, Debra Davies, Lynn James, Robin Roberts, Jean Shaw Bernie Mahar, Kimmer Morris and Susan Morris * Blues in the Star Wars bar: Don Wodjenski, saxophone; Gene Koffkin, electric guitar; Jeff Greene, piano; and Marty Doc Sticks Laster, drums, playing All Blues by Miles Davis * Finale, followed by a cameo appearance by Mary the MailpersonA staff art show will also be on exhibit in the gallery adjacent to the auditorium.
