“A South Whidbey neighborhood is being terrorized by a rogue cat that has assaulted a human, attacked other cats and a dog, engaged in breaking and entering, and seduced an unspayed female.I have a baby that looks like him, said Deborah Congdon, describing the terrible, mean cat that has been harassing her and her neighbors on Blue Lady Lane, above Sandy Point.In one incident, Congdon went to work at the Langley Library but left a window open in her house. She thought it was OK because a screen still tightly covered the window. But the screen didn’t stop the cat.When I came home there was fur, poop and pee all over, she said. My cat was traumatized, and I think he bit my dog. He impregnated one of my cats, but that was my fault. I hadn’t had it neutered yet.Congdon said she’s paid approximately $1,000 in veterinary bills related to damage done to her animals by the mean cat. Plus she’s got three kittens she hadn’t planned on. A very responsible pet owner, she learned to never again delay having her cats neutered.When the mean cat sees another cat in a house, he’ll try anything to get to the animal. Congdon said one neighbor has a broken area on her front door where the cat keeps scratching to get in. He terrifies other animals and humans, she said. When people confront the cat outdoors, it turns in a threating manner and hisses rather than running away.The mean cat did serious damage to another neighbor last Saturday. The victim was 12-year-old Erin Pierce. It was 7 a.m. and her parents, Gail and Gary, were still sleeping. Erin said she looked out at the porch and saw the mean cat on the steps, hissing and staring at her cat inside. She opened the door to shoo it away, but instead it attacked her. It came up the stairs and wouldn’t get off my leg, she said. The result was bad scratches on her knee and thigh, with several deep claw marks in her thigh. The cat badly bit her hand, resulting in extensive swelling. It kept clawing until Erin’s cat came outside. It stopped, and I went inside, she said.On Sunday, the mean cat returned, got into the garage and had a fight with Toby, one of the family’s two cats.By Monday, the shock had worn off and Erin went to school. I feel OK, she said. My hand hurts most because it’s swollen.Carol Barnes, Island County Animal Control Officer, examined Erin’s wounds and described them as unbelievable scratches. She searched the area for the mean cat but with no luck. It may be a feral type and we’re still trying to locate it, she said.Gail Pierce, Erin’s mother, said the cat has been seen around the neighborhood for several months. He just keeps getting meaner and meaner, she said. She said Erin’s doctor wasn’t too worried about the injuries because cats seldom get rabies, but they’d still like to see the cat caught and quarantined. Because the cat looks well fed and stays in the same area, Pierce wonders if it’s really a feral cat. I think that cat belongs to someone, she said.The mean cat is described by Animal Control as white with black and brown markings. Anyone with information may call 321-5111. “
