“Opening day of fishing season Saturday was marked by low angler turnout that the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife attributed to poor weather across much of the state.Fishing pressure on South Whidbey’s Deer Lake and Goss Lake was also lower than in prior years. But those who did turn out went home with some fish. A Wildlife Dept. check showed Deer Lake anglers averaged four fish per rod, while at Goss Lake the count was 2.9 fish per rod. Lone Lake is open year-round and was not checked on Saturday.To make the top 10 list statewide, a lake had to produce at least 4.9 trout per rod. The most productive lake was Dry Falls in Grant County which turned out 9.0 fish per rod. Many were 12-23 inches and were caught and released.The low number of anglers on opening weekend means there will be more fish for everyone later in the season, according to a Wildlife Dept. news release. “
