“A Langley Police officer and an Island County Sheriff’s deputy arrested two men and a boy last Tuesday night after a employee of a downtown Langley business observed the trio attempting to open cars parked in the city’s business district. The arrest likely brought an end to a three-week string of car burglaries in which six Langley cars were broken into and robbed. Langley Police Chief Bob Herzberg said this week that his office is still investigating the possible involvement of the two men and the boy in the car burglaries. As of yet the men, one of whom is from Everett, and the boy, a Greenbank resident, have not been charged with the crimes.The burglaries took place in a number of scattered locations around Langley. The first break-in happened in the Saratoga Terrace Apartments parking lot, the second on First Street, then three more around the Sixth Street and Al Anderson Avenue intersection. Herzberg said the break-ins were for the most part crimes of opportunity, since most of the burglarized vehicles were unlocked. Stolen from the cars were CD players and other car stereo equipment, most of which had theft-deterring removable faceplates. However, Herzberg said, the car owners had not removed those faceplates, which would have made the equipment unusable.Herzberg said that even though Langley is a relatively safe community, car owners should lock their doors and remove stereo faceplates if they wish to avoid having their cars burglarized. “
