“South Whidbey’s baseball team ended its league road season Wednesday by traveling to Lynden Christian where they lost 9-6.South Whidbey gave up four runs in the first inning but gamely fought back to take a 6-5 lead into the fifth. The Lyncs took over the scoreboard from there, however, tallying twice in both the fifth and sixth to cement the win.We walked 10 guys, lamented Falcon coach Bill Patterson. It’s tough to beat anyone that way. The Falcons still had a chance, especially in the fifth when they left the bases loaded.Nick Lamb provided some offensive firepower with a two-run home run in the fourth. Chris Patterson went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, and Brian Gabelein was 2-for-3 and drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth.South Whidbey’s final conference game was yesterday with a home game against the Lyncs. But the season is far from over. We’re going to end up in fifth place, Patterson said. Since the top six North Cascades League teams advance to the playoffs, the Falcons will see post-season play. Patterson said the likely first opponent is Lakewood on May 5 at Mount Vernon.”
