“Have your pie and eat it, too, at the fourth annual Dinner and Pie Auction benefit for Whidbey AIDS Support Fund. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on May 13, in the fellowship hall of the Langley United Methodist Church. Brian McKenna is catering the roast turkey dinner (a vegetarian option is offered), and auctioneer Sue Frause brings her wit and humor to the friendly bidding on pies for dessert or to take home. A sculpture donated by local artist Georgia Gerber is among the art-able items at this edible auction. It is on display at the Gaskill/Olson Gallery on First Street in Langley prior to Saturday evening. Additional items for raffle and auction will be shown during dinner. The funds raised help WASF provide emergency financial assistance and personal support to persons living with HIV/AIDS in Island County. Though the new medication does help clients to live longer, they continue to live with HIV/AIDS, since there still is no cure, said Issy Olivia, WASF coordinator. The Whidbey AIDS Support Fund makes certain that emergency funding and support continues to be available to its clients. The fund raising from this event along with the AIDSWalk in the fall gives opportunity to people in our communities to be involved in this local organization and cause.Several local restaurants are providing specialty pies for the auction block, including Langley Village Bakery, Mike’s Place, Sapori Cafe, PS Suisse, and Neil’s Clover Patch. Local bakers are also preparing their favorite prize winning pies, making a selection of fruit, cream, chocolate, berry and sweet potato pies. Several quiches and cheesecakes are offered to complete the variety.Limited seating at the event makes advance ticket purchase advisable. The $12 tickets are on sale at Gaskill/Olson Gallery in Langley, the Book Bay and 1504 Coffee Bar in Freeland, and Coupeville Pharmacy. To donate a pie or help at the event, call Issy Olivia at 321-8272.”
