New officers were elected on the South Whidbey Board of Education at their last meeting.
The annual reorganization of the board allows for different directors to step up and serve as board president during their term.
Stepping out of the president’s position was Helen Price Johnson, who has served for two years. She passed the gavel to Rich Parker.
Bob Riggs, who is on a leave of absence until January 2006, was elected vice-president, and Price Johnson will step into Parker’s chair as the legislative representative. Director Jim Adsley will continue to act as the board’s auditor and Greg Gilles will continue as the board’s representative to Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
Price Johnson has served as the board’s president since 2003.
“It has been an honor to serve as the board’s president for two years,” Price Johnson said.
“We’ve had a lot of successes as a team. It has been an honor to work with the other directors,” she said. “The rotation of leadership is important for fresh perspective and renewed energy. Personally it has been rewarding and challenging,” she said.
In other district business, Price Johnson and Adsley received the oath of office to the board. Both ran unopposed and were re-elected to their positions until 2009.
John Willson also asked for more community and staff to volunteer for a telephone tree next week where organizers hope to call all voters in the South Whidbey School District to answer any questions they might have about the upcoming $3.4 million maintenance-and-operation levy, and the $500,000 capital projects levy. Voters will be asked to approve both levies on Feb. 7.
