“One or more burglars made Thanksgiving quite unhappy for three Langley families last Thursday when they kicked in the front door of three homes and took cash, jewelry, silver and some electronic equipment.Langley Police Chief Bob Herzberg said Monday that burglars stuffed or kicked in the front doors of two homes in the Edgecliff Drive and Furman Avenue area and one in the Sixth and Park Street area sometime Thursday morning or afternoon. All the burglaries were discovered early Thursday evening.Herzberg said no one was at home during the burglaries, which is why it took so long for the broken doors to be discovered. Only two of the homes were burglarized, he said. The burglars did not take anything from one of the homes they broke into. So far, the police department has no suspects in their investigation of the crimes. Herzberg said this sort of crime is unusual for Langley, and upsetting. The investigation is ongoing.Who ever did this was extremely rude to do this on Thanksgiving, he said. On the same day, Island County Sheriff’s deputies responded to several burglary reports in unincorporated South Whidbey. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Jan Smith said Tuesday that at least two of the reports were unfounded, while two others — one on Central Avenue and the other on Timberline Road — are still under investigation.Smith cautioned that the number of home burglaries tends to rise locally during the winter, as do incidents of package theft from porches and mailboxes.
