Nichole was inspired at last year’s relay to grow out her hair in the event that helps children suffering with cancer.The Locks of Love fund-raiser will again by sponsored by the Cancer Crusaders team in the 5th Annual Relay for Life, to be held on June 22-23 at the South Whidbey High School track.Last year more than 25 tresses of 10 inches or more in length were give at the Relay for Life, and over $400 was raised for the American Cancer Society. Locks of Love is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the United States suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Several local stylists will contribute their time to the effort this year. They include Deb Clyburn of Deb’s Hare Today in Freeland; Sharon Gabelein and Carole Giancola of Paul’s in Freeland; Peggy Thomas of Baker Street Theatre, Langley; and Helen Kamps of Cottage Rose, Freeland. Hair cuts will be given at the relay site on a first-come basis on Friday, June 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations of 10 inches or more will cost $5; all other cuts will cost $10. No appointments are necessary.Cancer Crusaders have also recruited the talents of Studio A, which will open their doors to extend the fund-raiser on Sunday, June 24, from noon-4 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling 331-4949. Price for a haircut is $20; manicures and pedicures are also available for $10.Studio A is also raffling a basket of hair products, with tickets available at the salon in Freeland and at the Relay for Life.The Cancer Crusaders will not be idle before the relay date, however. They will hold a garage/bake sale on Saturday, June 16, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Useless Bay. And donation cans have been placed at the Red Apple Casey’s, Casey’s Crafts and NAPA in Freeland. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. “
