The road was closed for several hours so the electrical problem could be fixed.Jim Larsen/staff photoHundreds of residents living just south of Langley lost power for a short time Friday when a car struck a power pole on Bayview Road.The accident occurred on the hill above the intersection with Andreason Road. According to the Washington State Patrol, a 1989 Nissan Maxima driven by Chris Sargent, 18, of Clinton was southbound when he lost control and left the roadway, striking the power pole.The big pole toppled over and fell across the roadway, dragging a number of power lines with it.Fire District 3 and Whidbey ambulance crews responded. Sargent and a passenger in the car, Daniel Cutler, 18, of Clinton were taken to Whidbey General Hospital where both were treated and released. The Nissan was totaled.The impact caused a transformer on the pole to blow out and leak oil onto the ground, which was considered a fire hazard. Combined with the danger of downed wires, the road had to be closed for several hours. People coming to Langley had to take a long detour down Andreason, Lone Lake and Saratoga roads.Puget Sound Energy reported that up to 900 customers were without power due to the accident, which occurred at 1:45 p.m. Repairs took several hours.On Sunday, the same area was hit by another power outage when a tree fell across the power lines. This outage, caused by brisk winds, affected energy users as far away as Casey’s grocery store on Highway 525. “
