A 23-year-old Coupeville man faces a felony charge for allegedly violating a no-contact order by assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Wesley Greene was charged Feb. 22 in Island County Superior Court with felony violation of a protection order. Greene pleaded not guilty, and bond was set at $5,000.

According to the affidavit of probable cause taken by the Island County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened this way:

The 21-year-old victim was leaving her 2-year-old son at a South Whidbey friend’s house last month so the child’s father, Greene, could visit him. But when the woman went into the house, Greene was there and began yelling obscenities and assaulted her. The woman tried to leave, but Greene allegedly bashed her head against the front door. He then tried to take the child from her car, but the couple’s mutual friend stopped him.

The sheriff’s report also alleges that Greene punched the woman in the head twice, causing her to fall on the ground and scrape her hand. The woman eventually escaped and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

Greene left, but a sheriff’s deputy later stopped him as he was walking with a friend on the side of the road. Greene gave a fake name, but the deputy later figured it out and arrested him.

Greene had been ordered not to have any contact with the woman under a King County court order. In addition, Greene has three felony convictions and an outstanding King County warrant for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

At a March 1 hearing, Island County Judge Vicki Churchill renewed the no-contact order for one year.
