“‘The Best Gift’ at St. Peter’sWhat gift can you give someone who already has everything? Find the answer at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Clinton on Sunday, Dec. 10, 10:30 a.m., when the children of the church will perform a musical Christmas play, The Best Gift, in which toys come alive. St. Peter’s Choir, directed by Heidi Hoelting, will welcome the congregation with a medley of carols and lead everyone in singing traditional favorites.Advent and Christmas musicOn Sunday, Dec. 10, the Langley United Methodist Church Chancel Choir will offer special Advent and Christmas music during both worship services, at 9 and 10:15 a.m. The church will be decorated for the season, with a large Advent wreath hanging over the altar.Nursery care is available at both services with Sunday School for children and youth during the second service. An informal congregational hymn singing will be held between services, at approximately 10 a.m. throughout Advent.Santa Lucia at St. Augustine’sThe 10 o’clock morning service at Saint Augustine’s-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church in Freeland will present the legend of Santa Lucia, with the children of St. Augustine’s in attendance upon the Lucia bride, dressed in a white gown with a red sash symbolizing her martyrdom and a crown of candles resting on her head. Young bridesmaids carry candles and star boys represent the three Magi. Afterward, the children will host a reception with sweets of the Santa Lucia tradition. The Journey to BethlehemUnity of Whidbey’s spiritual leader Mary Knight-Burdsal will offer the message, Making Room for the Christ during the 10 a.m. worship service on Dec. 10, the first of a three-part series on The Journey to Bethlehem. The traditional Christmas story offers us profound insight into our own spiritual journey, Knight-Burdsal said. Beverly Graham will provide the music, and there will be a reading of the story, The Christmas Candle, for children’s welcome time.Unity meets at Bayview Community Hall.Home for the Holy DaysRev. Tim Jensen will speak at the Dec. 10 service of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island on ways to put the holy back into the holidays, keeping alive the Advent spirit of hope and gratitude amidst the hectic preparation for the festive season.Children in grades K-8 will make Christmas ornaments and prepare for a puppet show, with nursery care for younger ones.
