Clinton painter is Artist of the Month

He is one of January’s Artists of the Month at the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery.Noted Whidbey watercolorist Ted Basrak will show his work as the Artist of the Month for January in the Artists’ Co-op Gallery in Langley. The exhibit opens on Saturday, Jan. 6.Basrak is a member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and the Artists of South Whidbey. He has lived on Whidbey for 24 years, and says he has drawn inspiration from the landscape of the island and its changing weather.The rapid changes in stormy skies intrigue me as they bring new horizons into view, Basrak said. Going to my studio is like going from one world to another. I fine serenity there and a magical feeling that is hard to express in words.Basrak said he also often paints from his imagination, allowing images to come from some corner of my memory or from the music of the harp.A native of Yugoslavia, Basrak has been studying painting since his childhood years in Belgrade. He fought in the Resistance during World War II, and was credited with saving 32 airmen after they crashed in Yugoslavia. He has also traveled widely in Europe and South America.Basrak lives in Clinton. He has two sons and daughters-in-law, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. “
