“South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District will hold two dances for the community at Bayview Hall this weekend.South Whidbey International Folkdancers begins its fall session Friday, Sept. 7 from 7:45-10 p.m., featuring local instructors teaching dances from Scandinavia, Greece, Scotland, the Balkans, Israel, the United States and many others. There will be beginner level dances for newcomers, and others more difficult for the experienced. No partners are needed. Cost is $6 at the door. The dances are held on the first and third Fridays of the month. Call 221-5472 or 730-1236.On Saturday, Sept. 8, the new season of contra dances will begin with fiddler Kat Fritz hosting the Island Contra Band. Mike Schuh will teach and call contras and the occasional square dance, then lead participants through the dance accompanied by live music. All dances are taught before the music starts. The workshop begins at 7 p.m., the dances at 7:30. All dances are mixers; no partners required.
