“South Whidbey is organizing to help a woman artist who lost everything when the house she was living in burned to the ground June 14.The midnight blaze in the double-wide manufactured home on Scatchet Head Road destroyed all of Jenny Nessinger’s possessions, including all her art supplies.Nessinger, 29, has lived on the island for years and attended the Seattle Art Institute. In recent months she has been painting sets for the Fugitive TV series based in Mukilteo.Friend and fellow artist Pat McVay said he arrived at the house fire minutes after it started. The whole place was in 30-foot flames, he said, expressing relief that Nessinger escaped unhurt. Fire Chief Don Smith described the structure as a death trap due to its construction.McVay said Nessinger had been renting but had been in negotiations to purchase the five acres the home sat on. She still hopes to buy the land. In the meantime, she would like to continue living there.McVay said that ideally someone would allow the use of a small travel trailer for a month or two. There’s water, power and phone, he said. People are bringing clothes, food and furniture, but there’s not place to put anything.Artists could also help out by providing supplies. She’s a wonderful painter, McVay said. She needs oils, brushes and canvas.Anyone interesting in helping can call Pat McVay at 579-7811 or contact Nessinger’s voice mail at 579-2076. Finanical contributions for Jenny Nessinger may be made at Whidbey Island Bank. “
