“Football team starts with winThe eighth grade Langley Middle School Cougar football team started off their season with a 6-0 win over North. The Cougar defense held North scoreless with big hits from Michael Lodell, Daniel Eining, Michael Green, Michael Osburn, Sheridan Caitlin, Tanner McInerney, Tony Parra and Jason Gilberts. Matt Parrick also had an interception. The Cougs offense also worked hard but came up short. The only points of the game came from a punt runback by Adam Tenuta. This was a good game for our Cougs and great way to start the season.The seventh grade Cougars fought hard in a losing battle on the Cougar field. North Middle School came out on top 34-12. The offensive charge was led by the running of Josh Bavaro, who ran 60 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Jake Richards scored six points of his own on a 50-yard run. Richards also completed big passes to Evan Johnson and Joey Souza.Softball squad splits first twoThe Cougar softball teams opened their seasons by splitting two games at Eisenhower. In a battle of two teams who finished with nine wins last year, our ladies took care of business and beat the Everett team by a final of 6 to 1. On the field just south of the eighth grade game, the Eisenhower seventh grade girls outscored our sevies by a final of 11 to 1.The seventh graders got hits from Caitie Newman, Marcella Litwiller and Anna Miller, Litwiller with the run and Miller with the RBI. Newman struck out six batters.The eighth graders were led offensively by Kelsey Broderick with two RBIs and a sacrifice fly. Carolann Lubach and Christie Robinson combined pitching duties by each striking out seven batters while allowing two hits, two walks and one unearned run.Twenty running teams competeThe Langley cross country team hosted 20 schools in its first meet of the season. The Cougars ran well to place first overall by beating second place Valley View by over 100 points.The eighth grade boys placed first with the help of Tyler Rueth, who ran strong to finish as our fifth runner. Tyler had plenty of help from Drew Aernie in second, Ari Strickland fifth, Michael Veeder 12th, and Hing Potter 24th. This is very good considering there were over 100 runners in the race. Also running for the eighth grade boys were Arlan Dirkson, Kyle Cramer and Shawn Morris.The eighth grade girls also placed first with the help of some outstanding performances. Kelly DeGraaf placed first with Becky Gabelein fourth, Kelsyn Graham-Wright 11th, Nancy Godsey 12th, and Shannon Schrecengost 13th. Also running well in this race were Kelly Schorr, Shea Meehan and Breanne Dumke. The seventh grade runners also helped to make it a LMS overall first place. The seventh grade girls outran all 20 teams to take first place as a team. And they did it as a team, placing seven runners in the top 20. Katherine East placed sixth, Kaylee Baldwin seventh, Natasha Knowlton-Woods eighth, Lucy Brennan eighth, Katie Roemer 14th, Jenna Wild 16th, and Mary Bakeman 17th. Also running well for the seventh grade girls was Kellie Robinson, Maria Bottenberg and Amber Hoch.The seventh grade boys also ran well and placed fifth as a team. They were led by Chris Depender, who placed 10th overall. Also running well to place in the top 25 was Matt Statz. Other runners included Duncan Adams, Orson Ossman and Joe McArdle. “
