A number of Island County employees received kudos at Monday’s regular meeting of the board of commissioners for jobs well done.
Mike Andriesen of the Public Works Road Dept was the county’s Employee of the Month for December, with coworkers remarking on his honesty and hard work.
As testament to Andriesen’s integrity, they told how he recently found a large sum of money along a county road. Rather than stuff it into his pocket, Andriesen promptly handed it over to the sheriff’s department.
Service awards were handed out to Loann Gulick and Eileen King of the auditor’s office for 25 and 15 years of service, respectively; to Steve Timm in the sheriff’s department for 15 years; and to Solid Waste worker Brian Weaver for his 15 years.
Special recognition was given to Island County Engineer Dick Snyder and to Doug Holburt of the Public Works Department.
Three front counter workers in Planning and Community Development — Melinda Buchholz, Sue Higman and Carol Benson — were praised for their diligence and aplomb.
“They just hold it all together really well,” said Planning Director Phil Bakke.
