“Gathering at Langley ParkIn response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the East Coast, islanders are invited to a gathering/remembrance at the corner park in Langley at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, which has been designated a national day of mourning and remembrance Bring candles to the event, which will tie into a movement across the country when people will light candles and step outside at the same time.Community observance with Dances of Universal PeaceMembers of all faiths are invited to a special Community Observance on Sunday Sept. 16, 7 p.m. at Langley Methodist Church, sponsored by the Dances of Universal Peace. The dances honor the many spiritual traditions of the world, using sacred phrases, chants, music, and movements to promote peace. All are welcome, and there is no charge for the barbecue.Car wash to raise funds for terrorist victims Friends of Girl Scouts will hold a car wash on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Les Schwab Tire Center in Clinton, which has donated its space. All proceeds from the event will be sent to a relief fund for the victims of the attacks in New York and Washington D.C. Service responds to tragedyRev. Barbara Davenport from the Skagit Unitarian Universalist congregation will offer a special service, Tragedy: Responding from the Heart at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island on Sunday, Sept. 16, meeting at 4 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland. The service will acknowledge and affirm those who have been lost and those who have survived the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. Participants may share their emotions, thoughts and prayers in the light of these historic events. All are welcome.
