For more than 20 minutes during the first two quarters of the game, they had the Blaine Borderites on the run, keeping the score cozy and shooting within eight points when the buzzer sounded an end to the 40-32 half.It was just too bad the second half didn’t go as well.The Falcons ran afoul of the Borderites defense in the final two quarters and came out on the short end of the stick at game’s end, losing the North Cascades Conference matchup 79-49. But the Falcons’ even team play and solid individual performances showed that there is hope for a season with a rough 0-5 start.Putting up good numbers for the Falcons were Timmy Gabelein and Brandon Turner. Gabelein scored 12 points and ran away with four steals. Turner help turbocharge the South Whidbey offense in the first half, scoring seven points and making four assists on the game.Falcon coach Andy Davis also credited Brett Perkins for his play. He said the senior gave the team some late scoring punch with his four points, something the Falcons needed after Tim Gabelein ran into early foul trouble.(He) had his best all-around game of the year, Davis said of Perkins.The team is looking to pick up a few wins just after Christmas when it hosts the annual Falcon Classic basketball tournament on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29. All games will be played at South Whidbey High School. “
