Andy Heintz led the way with a 72 on the par 64 course, but close behind were Jeff Strong and Reed Dettrich, both with 73, Alec Osenbach with 74 and Bryce Hansen with 76. Medalist for the day was Dyer Haugen of Lake Stevens, who shot a 71.South Whidbey won the team competition with a combined 368 strokes to 377 for Stanwood and 390 for Lake Stevens.It’s fairly typical of what’s been going on this season, Heggenes said of the day’s results. After two North Cascades matches, the Falcons were number two in the league based on total scoring. Going by total stroke count, we’re entrenched in second, Heggenes said.In the season’s first North Cascades match, the Falcons finished third overall at Raspberry Ridge. Lynden Christian won with 197 followed by Meridian with 218, South Whidbey 220, Blaine 226 and Mount Baker 227. Trailing the pack were Lakewood and Nooksack Valley. Alec Osenbach was the top Falcon with a 42 on the par 34 nine holes.In the second league match at Homestead hosted by Lynden Christian, the home team scored 206, Mount Baker 217, South Whidbey 218, Meridian 229, Blaine 232, Lakewood 248 and Nooksack Valley 270. Freshman Jeff Strong led the Falcons with a 40 during the rainy nine-hole affair. Heintz shot 41, Osenbach 42 and Chuck Applebee 46 to lead the way.They were scheduled to play their third league match last night at Shuksan in Bellingham, their first 18-hole league match. Heggenes was optimistic going in. I’m excited, he said. We’ve got a strong corps of freshmen, a strong corps of seniors, and some good juniors. He’s looking for a couple of sophomores to step up and pressure the others to play even better. “
