Fire destroys trailer in Clinton

Woman narrowly escapes trailer fire.

“A Clinton woman taking a bath early Wednesday morning barely escaped with her life when the single-wide trailer she was living in burst into flames. The blaze at the French Road trailer brought firefighters from several Fire District 3 stations, including the Maxwelton station which was almost across the street from the blaze.According to FD 3 Assistant Chief Paul Busch, Yvette Hoy was taking a bath in one end of the trailer at about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday when she noticed the air in the bathroom heating up. When she opened the bathroom door to investigate, she discovered that half the trailer was in flames.Hoy managed to make it out of the trailer unhurt, but the structure was not nearly so lucky. Busch said the trailer was fully engulfed with flames by the time fire trucks arrived on scene. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes, but it took more than 90 minutes to completely extinguish the voracious flames. While investigating the cause of the fire later in the day, Busch said he and FD 3 Captain Mike Cotton determined that the blaze started in the trailer’s wiring. In one location on the structure, the two men found a nail driven through a bundle of wires, but all the wires in the trailer were so badly burned that is impossible to pinpoint that area as the cause. Busch said Hoy and her boyfriend, Kody Kinser, noted that the trailer was having electrical problems before the fire. The couple was renting the trailer and had of late been using the electrical breakers in the structure to turn the furnace on and off. The trailer is owned by Larry and Diana Campbell of Clinton. Busch said the trailer and its contents were a total loss.”
