“Former Langley City Council member Dick Johnson asked two pointed questions at Wednesday night’s council meeting that almost started a shouting match.Sitting in the council chamber gallery, Johnson used a portion of the public commentary section to level accusations at Councilmember Doug Allderdice, Mayor Lloyd Furman, and City Administrator Eric Lucas. Johnson last served on the council about eight years ago.To start, Johnson — who was long known as one of the more bombastic members of the city council — asked when the city will begin enforcing its ordinance that requires city residents to maintain two off-street parking spots. Johnson claimed several First Street residents, including Allderdice, are violating that rule. Then Johnson turned his attention to Furman and Lucas, accusing them of cutting a deal to sell the former Langley Marina building, which is owned by former council member Barney Hein, to Matt Nichols, president of Freeland’s Nichols Brothers Boat Builders. The property is currently on the market, listed with Windermere Real Estate for $200,000.After both of Johnson’s comments, all members of the council stayed largely silent for some time. Eventually, Eric Lucas broke the council’s silence to counter Johnson’s claims.I don’t cut any deals, Lucas said.Mayor Furman asked Johnson to add some details to remarks so the council could better understand what he was talking about. Johnson told Furman that he knew what he was talking about. You tell me, Johnson said.At that point, a frustrated Furman began raising his voice while speaking to Johnson and began to stand up from his seat at the front of the room. Lucas motioned for him to stop speaking and to sit down. After the meeting, the city’s director of public works, Rick Hill, said all First Street residents are in compliance with the city’s parking ordinance. Furman and Lucas said the city has no involvement with the sale of the Langley Marina property. “
