“Two 2000 South Whidbey High School graduates are continuing their basketball careers this winter on their new college teams.Kelsey Ellis and Brian Moote have both made the varsity squads at their respective schools, Central Washington University and the University of La Verne. Ellis is one of two freshmen to make the Central varsity team. Though playing as a reserve, she scored in double figures in the team’s first game this season, in addition to making five rebounds and two steals. Central is ranked second in its division. The team competes at the NCAA Division II level.Playing for his Southern California college, Moote traveled to Philadelphia this month to play in La Verne’s season-opening tournament. He played off the bench and contributed to both the team’s offense and defense. Recently, he scored the winning points in another pre-season game. La Verne is ranked near the top of the NCAA Division III rankings and is thought to have a shot at this year’s national tournament. “
