“Freeland is celebrating the holiday season with a tree lighting and decorating ceremony on Dec. 2, 4 p.m. at the Visitor’s Center, 1640 Main Street in Freeland. Festivities will include performances by several musical groups and hot cider, and everyone is invited to bring a bird-friendly ornament for the tree, such as pine cones and decorations made of fruit and bird seed. The tree lighting will also kick off the Freeland Festival of Lights, a decorating contest for local businesses, which encourages decoration of doors and windows using lights, ornaments, trees, window paint, garlands, boughs, wreaths-whatever they choose. Winners will be chosen by the public. Ballots will be available at participating businesses and the Freeland Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center.First prize is one night for two at the luxurious Cliff House Cottage; second, a basket full of gifts from local merchants; and third, a $100 gift certificate from Catherine DeWitt Custom Framing. “
