Haugen files to run for Senate in 10th District

State Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen filed as a candidate on Tuesday afternoon in the race for the District 10 Senate seat, according to Island County election staff.

Haugen, a Democrat, has served in the Washington State Senate since 1993.

Linda Haddon, the Republican candidate for the District 10 Senate seat, also filed as a candidate on Tuesday.

The pair join third-party candidate Sarah Hart in the race, which means the trio will now be on the Aug. 19 primary ballot. The top two will advance to the general election in November.

Two other candidates also filed to run for office on Tuesday afternoon.

Curt Gordon has filed to run for the District 1 Island County commissioner’s seat. Gordon is not running as a Democrat, Republican or an independent. Incumbent Republican Phil Bakke has already registered as a candidate in the race, which is also expected to eventually draw Democrat Helen Price Johnson and Republican Reece Rose.

Democrat Patricia Terry filed as a candidate Tuesday to run for the Position 2, District 10 seat in the state House of Representatives.
