“Hoping to hire someone who is the best match possible for the community, the South Whidbey School District will ask students, their parents, teachers, and members of the public Thursday night what qualities they want in a new superintendent.At 7 p.m. in the South Whidbey High School Commons, the district’s hiring consultant Dr. Richard Smith will canvas those attending the meeting on three questions — questions he said will weigh heavily in the district’s hiring decision:– What aspects of South Whidbey are its citizens proud of?– What are South Whidbey citizens looking for in a new superintendent?– What issues and challenges will the new superintendent face when she or he joins the district?In the wake of Dr. Lisa Bjork’s resignation from the position in March, the district has only until July to find a new chief executive. Bjork’s resignation is effective on June 30.Smith said the answers he gets to the questions posed Thursday will help him whittle down a pool of applicants that could top out between 25 and 50 people. By the end of May, that pool will be reduced to six applicants, then to three. The school board will make its final selection in June.Besides the public meeting, the school district sent out questionnaires that arrived in area mailboxes this week. Smith said the surveys with the three questions went to every mail customer in Clinton, Langley, and Freeland to make certain he gets the widest array of responses possible.”
