Help sew a quilt for a child

"Quilting by the Sea in Langley Village is hosting a day-long quilting bee on Wednesday, Jan. 10, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The community is encouraged to participate in sewing a quilt for children who are in the country for surgery. "

“Laura, who is from Latvia, was in Seattle for surgery last year through the Healing the Children program. She was given a handcrafted quilt as a keepsake of her visit here.As part of the Healing the Children program, Clinton resident Margarita Czaia escorts children from other countries to the United States for surgery that is not available in their homeland. The children are all alone, without family in a foreign land, unable to communicate freely because of the language barrier, missing their parents and family, and undergoing surgical procedures they can’t fully understand, said Mary Darby of Quilting by the Sea.The Langley Village shop is involved in making quilts for these children, and will host a day-long quilting bee on Wednesday, Jan. 10, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The community is encouraged to participate. Come in for as long as you can, Darby said. Have a fun time and help us turn the fabric that has been generously donated into quilts that these children will cherish for many years as a memory of their visit to the United States.Quilting by the Sea is located at 221 Second Street, in Langley Village. We welcome your fabric donations at any time as well, Darby said. For more information call 221-8171. “
