A convicted sex offender who seemed to be on his way to Whidbey Island to live as a homeless person apparently decided King County would be a better choice this week.

According to Island County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Smith, Johnny A. Goff Sr., a 45-year-old sex offender who was convicted of second-degree child molestation in Island County Superior Court in 2000, registered as a King County resident this week after he was released from prison Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office held a meeting about Goff on Monday when sheriff’s personnel still believed he might move to Whidbey Island. At the time, the sheriff’s office was expecting Goff to move into the North Whidbey area, where he lived when he committed the crime for which he was convicted.
