“A 130-strong boys and girls track team from Langley Middle School kicked off their 2001 season last Wednesday with a big win characteristic of the past four seasons.Seventh and eighth graders combined to win more than 20 events and downed teams from North and Lake Stevens middle schools by more than 100 points.The seventh-grade boys had the closest contest of the meet, winning their sub-team competition by one point over Lake Stevens. The victory came down to the final event, the 4×400 relay, in which Jake Richards, Chris Depender, Jesse Coble, and Jordan Strickler outpaced a Lake Stevens squad by three seconds. Other scorers for the 7th graders were Jesse Mattson, Max Burr, Orson Ossman, Josh Bavaro, Wolfe Styke, Devin Murphy, Joey Sousa, Todd Berry, and Conner Chin.The seventh-grade girls competition was anything but close. The lady Cougars won 10 of 12 events on their way to a 63-point victory over Lake Stevens. Winners for the team were Kaylee Baldwin, Lucy Brennan, Jenna Wild, Maya Black, Enell, and the sprint relay team of Sarah Olson, Laura Poolman, Kellie Robinson, and Katherine East.Winning by almost as impressive a margin were the eighth-grade boys. First place finishers Kevin Dunnigan, Drew Aernie, Adam Tenuta, Mark Iddins, Michael Veeder and relay runners Jacob Royds and Josh Helpenstell paced their team a 41-point margin of victory.The eighth-grade girls completed the LMS sweep by controlling the distance and sprint events. Winners were Becky Gabelein, Kelly DeGraaf, Carrie Anderson and Kelsey Broderick. Finishing first with Broderick in the 4×200 relay were Nancy Godsey, Alana Porter and Kelsyn Graham-Wright.Team coach Jack Terhar said the times and marks of his athletes were good, considering they have been training for only two weeks. There are other LMS home meets today and next Wednesday at the high school track. “
