A handful of Island Christian Academy students recently won national awards.

In March, seventh and eighth grade students at Island Christian Academy took the National Latin Exam along with 150,000 other students from all 50 states and several nations.

At Island Christian Academy in Langley, Latin is taught as an academic subject to grades three through eight. Instruction covers Latin grammar, English derivatives, and the culture, geography and literature of ancient Rome.

Students answered 40 multiple-choice questions on the geography, culture, and literature of the ancient Romans and Greeks, as well as a reading comprehension selection. 

Island Christian Academy would like to congratulate eighth-graders Amara Garibyan and Jonathan Panichi, who received certificates for their outstanding performance.

In February, students in the fifth and sixth grades took the National Mythology Exam. It tested their knowledge of Greek and Roman mythology, the underworld and African tales. This exam has been offered to students in grades three through nine since 1989 and was taken by more than 10,000 students in approximately 400 schools around the U.S. and in several foreign countries.

Congratulations to Robby Roberts who received a silver medallion, and to Rachel Helmersen, Megan Nance and Payton Gravley for receiving bronze medallions for their top scores on the National Mythology Exam.
