Island Drug moves back to Clinton

Nearly a month after closing the doors to its Ken’s Korner location, Island Drug has found a new home in the South Whidbey community.

The new location for the pharmacy is at the former Well’s Fargo building in Clinton, 8970 State Highway 525.

The building is close to the ferry and has a dual-lane drive-thru, which was the first part of the pharmacy to open.

Director of Operations Andy Plumlee said the new Island Drug will be fully open soon. There are plans to hire eight additional staff members.

“We’re looking to hire new staff, technicians, assistants, anybody who would like to work in that new store,” Plumlee said.

He added that Island Drug was able to retain all of its staff from the Ken’s Korner location. The staff was temporarily transferred up to the Oak Harbor store while Island Drug was seeking a new lease for South Whidbey.

Almost 500 patients were transferred to the North Whidbey store to make sure customers didn’t lose continuity of care, Plumlee said. Prescription deliveries were made six days out of the week, including during the Fourth of July holiday.

“My staff worked really hard to make sure the community felt as little of the pinch as possible of the loss of our old location,” Plumlee said.

The phone number and all contact information will remain the same for the South Whidbey store.
