“George Supang heads upfield with the ball during the soccer jamboree on Saturday.Jim Larsen, staff photosThink of it as soccer express.On Saturday, varsity and junior varsity soccer teams from South Whidbey High School, Port Townsend, and Jackson played two 20-minute games each in South Whidbey’s first-ever jamboree tuneup.Though most of the games ended in 0-0 ties, the round-robin mini-tournament gave all three teams a chance to test moves they have been practicing during the three-week pre-season. Falcon coach Mark Helpenstell said his players had fun on the field while he and his assistant coaches watched for any improvements they might need to make before Tuesday night’s season opener at Waterman Field.It was a fun little exercise to go through, Helpenstell said.The Falcons tied Port Townsend 0-0 in the first game of the day, then lost to 3A Jackson in their final game. Neither game counts on the team’s season record.Soccer fans should note that Thursday night’s scheduled home game against Blaine has been postponed, since Blaine’s boys basketball team is playing at the state tournament this week. Many members of that team also play soccer.The Falcons’ next game is next Tuesday against Mount Baker. That game will take place at Waterman Field. This Tuesday’s home game against Sultan occurred too late to be reported in this edition of The Record. “
