Kayakers saved from windy bay

Three kayakers found themselves in peril when they overturned in the waters of Honeymoon Bay.

Three kayakers found themselves in peril when they overturned in the waters of Honeymoon Bay on Tuesday afternoon during high and hazardous wind conditions in the area.

South Whidbey Fire/EMS, Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue, North Whidbey Fire and Rescue and Whidbey Health EMS were all dispatched to the marine rescue, according to a Facebook post from Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue.

South Whidbey Fire/EMS’s rescue boat and civilian boaters helped bring the capsized kayakers to safety, who were cold but uninjured from the event.

Fire officials confirmed that at least one of the kayakers was not wearing a life vest. Based on information from the dispatch, they have reason to believe the others were not wearing one either.

Ed Hartin, the fire chief for Central Whidbey Island Fire & Rescue, said the kayakers launched from Honeymoon Bay Road.
