“Desi Peterson draws the stars and moons that made her design for a Sno-Isle Library bookmark contest a winner in the kindergarten division.Matt Johnson / staff photoA South Whidbey kindergartner’s love of drawing made her a VIP in libraries last month when her design for a bookmark was chosen as the best entry by a kindergartner from among 720 Puget Sound area students.Armed with a black ballpoint pen and a sheet of white paper, Desi Peterson of Clinton drew stars and moons to her heart’s content, impressing both judges from the Sno-Isle Library System and her mother, Roxanne. Roxanne Peterson said her daughter, who is normally reserved about her artwork, said she was certain she had the best design.She said, ‘Mom, I’m gonna win,’ Peterson said. She was very excited.Desi, who does quite a bit of drawing on her own, said the bookmark design was much like other things she draws.I like making flowers and patterns, she said.When she was given her first place award — which included a certificate and recognition in area libraries — Desi felt just one thing.Very happy, she said.Desi’s design was reproduced and distributed in Sno-Island Libraries around Puget Sound for November’s National Children’s Book Week. “
