Langley’s 2016 budget will be the main topic for the city council at its Aug. 3 meeting.

The council is set to discuss several items related to the upcoming annual budget at its 5:30 p.m. meeting on Monday. Topics of mutual interest, assumptions, mayor’s priorities, a five-month major projects plan are all items on the council’s agenda.

A workshop about the budget is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 at city hall.

One item off the council’s list will be the potential sale of the firehouse. Langley had declared the building and property surplus, allowing the city to look at potential buyers. Only one stepped forward, current tenant Callahan McVay who runs Callahan’s Firehouse blown-glass studio on Second Street. His offer was unanimously rejected by the council after hearing several comments that it was an asset the city should retain. Having heard the public’s input, the council will look at taking the property off its surplus list.

The council is also scheduled earlier in the meeting to recognize the city’s wastewater treatment plant for a performance award, and Sweet Mona’s Chocolate Boutique with a facility enhancement award.
