A Langley man is being held in Island County jail on $100,000 bail for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl who lived in the same house with him, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged 38-year-old Eric D. Lusk in Island County Superior Court Nov. 14 with rape of a child in the second degree.

A woman reported to Child Protective Services and later to an investigator with the Island County Sheriff’s Office that she walked into the girl’s bedroom and found Lusk asleep in bed next to the child on June 6. Lusk and the girl were naked from the waist down, the deputy’s report on the incident states.

The woman shook Lusk awake and kicked him out of the house.

In an interview with police, the girl described how Lusk started touching her inappropriately about a year prior to the incident. She said he would lie next to her when she was alone and molest her; later, he entered her bedroom at night on multiple occasions and abused her, the report states.

The molestation turned into rape, the report indicates.

Lusk left Whidbey Island, but the sheriff’s office received a tip on Nov. 11 that he had returned to the island before moving to Hawaii.

The next day, the deputies went to the home where Lusk had been staying, but a man told them Lusk had taken a shuttle to the airport. The deputies went to the ferry dock, found Lusk in a shuttle and arrested him.

The victim has moved outside the county.

If convicted of the charge against him, Lusk could face from 6.5 to 8.5 years in prison under the standard sentencing range.
