“Pavers from Lakeside Construction will turn Langley’s Camano Avenue and Sixth Street into a fresh ribbon of black asphalt this week, making one of the city’s bumpiest sections of road the smoothest.Starting Monday, paving workers will lay the first sections of up to $74,000 in new pavement along the two-street stretch. Rick Hill, director of public works, said the pavement will cover the streets and an asphalt walkway built onto Sixth Street during the past three years. Afterwards, there will be no discernible edge between the walkway and the road.The whole thing will be seamless, Hill said.The paving project is piggybacked onto Island County’s 2001 paving contract with Lakeside. By fitting the city’s paving into Lakeside’s schedule, Hill said the city will save thousands of dollars it would have spent if it hired a contractor for the Camano-Sixth Street project alone.Funded entirely by the state’s Small City Preservation Program, the two-day paving job is expected to cost between $66,000 and $74,000.The Lakeside paving crew will also roll a blacktop overlay onto DeBruyn Avenue between Second and Third streets. “
