League of Women Voters to host candidate forums

Each of the three free, online events will center a different area of the island.

The Whidbey Island chapter of the League of Women Voters will be hosting three forums in advance of this November’s election to give residents an opportunity to find out what their local candidates are all about.

Each of the three free, online events will center a different area of the island.

South Whidbey is up to bat first. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, candidates for Langley city council, South Whidbey school board and South Whidbey Fire/EMS board of commissioners will meet to answer questions and discuss their views.

North Whidbey will follow from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The North End forum will feature candidates for Oak Harbor city council, Oak Harbor school board and the North Whidbey Pool, Parks and Recreation district board of commissioners.

Central Whidbey will wrap up the week with their forum at the same time on Thursday, Oct. 14. Candidates for Coupeville town council, Coupeville school board and the Port of Coupeville board of commissioners will take the virtual stage to answer questions and discuss their platforms.

Forum committee chair Carla Grau-Egerton said the public has already been very engaged with the forum, submitting more questions for local candidates this year than she’s ever seen before.

“I’m ecstatic that there’s this level of interest in our local government, which is so important,” she said.

Zoom links for each forum will be posted to www.lwvwhidbey.org the day before the event.
