“Lear and Campbell offer evening of song, stories”

"Tina Lear, left, and Courtney Campbell will perform their second annual concert together on Sunday, July 30, at Thomas Berry Hall."

“For the second year, Tina Lear and Courtney Campbell will come together on stage to weave their magic into an evening of music, comedy, storytelling and song. Last summer, a Lear-Campbell concert was a culmination of a week-long workshop for young girls called Stories from Song. This year, the workshop was canceled because of a family emergency, but the two entertainers are continuing with the concert plans. We love working together, even though we come from two different genres, said Courtney Campbell. Lear writes and sings from a contemporary perspective, Campbell said, while she herself is a folksinger and storyteller. But when we get together it’s electric, Campbell said. The concert will encompass a broad spectrum of songs, from the silly and sublime to the deeper, more serious music. We hope to leave the audience both moved and giggling at the end, Campbell said. They will open the performance together, Lear on the piano and Campbell on guitar, and will follow with separate acts, with Lear singing songs from her soon to be released CD, The Road Home, and Campbell entertaining with stories such as those from her CD, Mustard Pancakes. Some will be new stuff, that no one has heard, Campbell said. The theme is that there are serious and fun sides to life. We have to laugh and look to the future. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Whidbey Institute’s Thomas Berry Hall at Chinook. Tickets, at the door, are $5 and $10 (sliding scale).
