“Investing factsWhen: Wednesday, April 12, 7-9 p.m.Where: Community Room, South Whidbey Intermediate School, 5380 Maxwelton Road, Langley.Cost: No charge, all material freeThe guru of South Whidbey investment clubs will lead a free meeting for those interested in learning how to invest. The April 12 meeting is sponsored by the National Association of Investors Corp.Bill Sacre was one of the founders of Whidbey Investors 13 years ago. It was South Whidbey’s first club for investors, and the number of clubs has since grown to sixteen.Sacre is known far beyond this area, however. He has been president of the 1,360-member Puget Sound Chapter of the National Association, and is presently president of the National Association itself, which boasts 36,600 member clubs.Although the stock market has been acting like a yo-yo in recent weeks, Sacre isn’t nervous — he always takes the long range view of financial matters. And he thinks there’s still room for the market to rise to new heights.I don’t think it’s peaked yet, he said. And if it has, we’ll just wait for it to peak again.Sacre was an early purchaser of Microsoft stock and has patiently hung on to it while its value soared. Now that Microsoft is on the losing end of a court battle, Sacre still isn’t thinking of selling. If the worst happens and Microsoft is broken up, he likens the impact on stockholders as owning a whole bunch of Baby Bells. When AT&T was broken up, its stockholders fared well over time.Next Wednesday’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Intermediate School Community Room and there is no charge, including materials. The National Association of Investors Corp. is non-profit, tax exempt educational trust and Sacre simply enjoys spreading the word on how to invest wisely. His Whidbey Investors club has seen an annual average gain of 24 percent over the years. A $1,000 investment 13 years ago would be worth $7,000 today.Sacre says you don’t have to be rich to start investing. With his club there’s a $50 monthly minimum, but other clubs have lower limits.Topics at the meeting will include investment programs, secrets of investment clubs, why the second million comes faster than the first million, and various educational programs for investors. The meeting is aimed at potential new investors, individuals looking for clubs to join or who want to form clubs, and young investors interested in starting early, which is something Sacre highly recommends.”
