The two training partners showed up with their dogs, which set the pace for the two runners on their way to convincing victories Saturday. The race, which was held on trails at the South Whidbey Community Park, seemed to be fun for all 85 human runners. Westlake said it was especially so for his German shorthair, Cara. She takes it out really fast, he said after the race.Held as a fundraiser for the Maxwelton Salmon Adventure, the event raised almost $2,000 for salmon habitat restoration on South Whidbey. He finished about 2 minutes behind Westlake. The top women’s finisher was South Whidbey graduate Jessie Enell. At 10 kilometers, 2000 Tri-the-Rock champion Peter Oakley was the fastest South Whidbey runner.
