“There is still an opportunity to get a discount on low wattage light bulbs on South Whidbey thanks to a recent donation.The Ward Foundation, which supports conservation efforts on the island, provided a $500 donation to the Community Alternative Power Project (CAPP) Compact Fluorescent Bulb Campaign.While supplies last, purchase one or more of the low-wattage bulbs from Sebo’s in Bayview, Jim’s Hardware in Clinton, or Ace or Building Source in Freeland. The bulbs come with a certificate for a $2 rebate.Certificates may be redeemed Saturday mornings at the information kiosk at the Bayview Farmers Market during market hours 10-2.This donation also helped CAPP purchase an energy meter for community use. This meter will calculate the energy usage and resulting cost of any plug-in appliance.Laurie Keith, a CAPP founder, said the group is forming an energy conservation study group to help islanders support each other in figuring out the most effective energy saving changes to make in the home, and to help them make those changes.The Ward power meter will be available for loan to those in this group and in CAPP.
