“Thanks to Nichols Brothers workers, hundreds of Puget Sound area residents will be dining in high style in coming years.The M/V Royal Argosy, an 800-passenger dinner boat, was launched Wednesday from the Nichols Brothers boat yard in Freeland. Finishing touches will be added at the Langley dock before its official christening on April 22.The owner, Argosy Cruises, will bring it to Seattle from where it will operate from a downtown pier.Matt Nichols, president of Nichols Brothers, said the Argosy was under construction for 10 months and may be the most luxurious dinner boat ever built. Each main deck features its own kitchen, the dance floors are marble, and there are many other special touches that make it unique.The Royal Argosy is 180-feet long with a 42-foot beam. Power is supplied by Alaska Diesel Electric.Completion of the project also meant the temporary end of a job for many boat yard employees, but that should be short-lived, according to Nichols. Although the contract is not yet signed, the company expects to get a job building another fast catamaran for a private San Francisco area ferry company.The Royal Argosy is expected to begin service in May, in time for the opening of boating season in Seattle.”
