While this is the team’s best record ever, both the Mountaineers and the Lyncs are having banner seasons and will be obstacles on South Whidbey’s road through the district playoffs.Falcon coach Mark Helpenstell said his boys played as well as the Lyncs Saturday and even outshot them. The Lynden Christian players were just a bit sharper than his own, as they were on March 30, the last meeting between the two teams.Hopefully we get another shot at them, Helpenstell said.In Saturday’s game, the Lyncs went up early in the first half and held a 1-0 lead into the opening minutes of the second half. Senior Falcon striker George Supang evened the score at 1-1 with an unassisted, 30-yard goal kick. But the Lyncs answered with two more goals against South Whidbey goalkeeper Mike Johnson – enough to put the game away. The Falcons play their final home game of the season Thursday against visiting Granite Falls. If the Falcons and Mount Baker both win their final games of the regular season, they will play a tie-breaking game before district playoffs begin. Thursday’s game starts at 6 p.m. on Waterman Field. “
