Man arrested after collision

An Oak Harbor man was arrested after causing an accident on Highway 20 near Coupeville on Oct. 7, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Christopher B. Hand, 36, was driving north in a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage on Highway 20 near the intersection with Cedar Hollow Lane. Samantha A. James, 23, had stopped her 1998 Lexus LS on the highway to turn left onto Cedar Hollow Lane, according to the State Patrol.

Hand’s car rear-ended the Lexus, the report states. Both vehicles came to a rest on the highway.

The collision was reported at 1 p.m.

Hand, James and 40-year-old Bridget A. Curtis, a passenger in Hand’s car, were injured and transported to WhidbeyHealth Medical Center for treatment.

The report from the State Patrol indicates that Hand was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Hand was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and booked into the Island County jail.
