An unusual dispute between a landlord and a tenant led to a dangerous moment at a Central Whidbey location Friday, Sept. 27, court documents say.

Deputies with the Island County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at a trailer home on a Highway 525 property. Deputies were aware of disputes between Seth Goeltzenleuchter, the resident who lives in the trailer, and people living in an RV.

A deputy knocked on the door of Goeltzenleuchter’s trailer and Goeltzenleuchter knocked back from inside. The deputy knocked louder and announced “sheriff’s office” and Goeltzenleuchter knocked back again, the deputy wrote in his report.

Goeltzenleuchter then opened the door and pointed a handgun at the deputy, the report states. The deputy ran to the corner of the trailer for cover and drew his firearm.

Another deputy ordered Goeltzenleuchter out of the trailer and he complied. A loaded Colt .38 was found in his pocket. He told the deputies he didn’t know they were police, the report states.

Two people in the RV reported that Goeltzenleuchter had been harassing them because rent was due. He was arrested on suspicion of assault in the third degree and felony harassment.
