An Oak Harbor man originally accused of leading organized crime was sentenced to prison this week.

Elijah J. Wright pleaded guilty in Island County Superior Court Thursday to four counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of forgery and identity theft in the second degree.

The prosecution and defense recommended an 18-month sentence and the judge agreed.

Wright committed multiple vehicle prowls that occurred in the northwest area of the city on the night of Jan. 30. He was identified from home surveillance videos.

A detective with the Oak Harbor Police Department was able to tie him to two dozens thefts from vehicles. He allegedly conspired with at least three other people to cash stolen and forged checks.

As a result, Wright was charged with leading organized crime, along with the other related charges. The organized crime charge was dismissed as part of the plea bargain.

Wright posted $50,000 bail and was released May 31. On June 18, an Oak Harbor police officer arrested him on suspicion of vehicle prowling in the second degree and obstructing a law enforcement officer, according to court documents.

In July, a judge issued a $150,000 bench warrant on Wright after he failed to appear at several hearings.

One of the victims wrote an impact statement explaining how having his tools stolen cost him jobs and his livelihood.
