Three teams from Langley Middle School won ribbons and medals at the Math Olympiad competition recently.

Three teams from Langley Middle School won ribbons and medals at the Math Olympiad competition recently.

Two seventh grade teams and one sixth grade team did well enough to claim two ribbons and one medal. Andrew Baesler, Larsen Christiansen and Hank Papritz won a ribbon for the sixth grade long problem competition. Chloe Hood, Fiona Callahan, Kari Hustad and Amelia Hensler won a ribbon for the seventh grade short problems and a ribbon for the long problem competition. Cory Ackerman, Max Cassee, Maxfield Friedman and Will Simms won a medal for the seventh grade long problem competition.

In total, 20 students were on the math teams from fifth, sixth and seventh grade.

Volunteer coach Clyde Monma praised the students’ dedication in District Superintendent Jo Moccia’s weekly report.

“I am very proud of all of our participants,” Monma said. “They all devoted many, many hours after school and at home working on these advanced math problems and topics.”
