According to an Island County Sheriff’s report, Eckert was northbound on Langley Road when she drifted off the road while trying to close the vehicle’s center console. Karl Kirn of Puget Sound Energy said the crossarm at the top of the pole was broken by the whiplike action of the pole when it was struck. He said crossarms are designed to break to prevent damage to power lines. There was no power outage due to the crash, Kirn said. “
